Little pink arming tent
Looking at period images, it’s clear that a round tent is the most common design. I had put the possibility of a round tent out of reach, but following a fair amount of mathing and patio chalk drawings I realized that with the last little bit of clearance pink twill I could manage a little round tent to see how it went. And it went stinking adorable, turns out the key was to remember I’m making a tent for me so it can be my size. It is about 9 ft at the peak, 9ft in diameter at the base and 6 ft in diameter at the shoulder which sits 6ft tall. It’s internally supported using a hub and spoke which while lacking much historical evidence does allow for the tent to backed extremely small and set up in around 15 minutes solo. It perfectly fits my little wooden bed and side table.
The first pink tent
I received a beautiful scroll for my Leaf of Merit (SCA West Kingdom service award) done by Mistress Hilaire the Puppeteer and Mistress Finna kǫttr Goðormsdóttir based on the Visconti book of hours which features a bright pink tent with flowers on it. When I started looking, I found several other examples of images of pink tents, including a different version of the same tent in the Visconti Tarot. Subsequently I was walking out of the fabric store and out of the corner of my eye saw a bin of rolls of clearance fabric. They had safety orange and a bright pink. I bought a roll of 40 yards at $2 per yard. My first go was to make a rectangular tent. The result is okay, but far from my dream tent.
