For West Kingdom March Crown in 2022, a friend and I decided to invite a couple friends over to our encampment for dinner on Saturday night, at which point things got wonderfully extra. I got a few photos of the credenza items, but entirely forgot to get any of the kitchen items. I was an amazing meal with amazing company
Elizabeth, who typically does Tudor English costuming, decided to make mid-15th C Italian garb to match my normal style… and well as long as she’s being that extra, I thought hey, let’s not just dinner, let’s have a damned feast. And that is how we came to spend two hours having a 29 dish meal in six courses all out of my little camp kitchen.
Menu:
Prelude: Quince paste, candied cherries, candied citrus peel, candied peaches
1st Course from the Credenza: Fennel salad, asparagus, herbed salad, artichoke hearts, olives.
2nd Course from the Kitchen: Roast chicken, roulades, rice cooked in broth, chickpeas, quince pottage.
3rd Course from the Credenza: White torte, cherry and rose torte, stuffed eggs, poached pears.
4th Course from the Kitchen: Roast beef with northern Italian sauce, meat in the florentine style, roast pork with mustard, split favas, ravioli, leek pottage
To finish: Marzipan, comfits (assorted candied spices), marcipane, candied almonds, candied pine nuts
